Meet a Man Who Makes Sh100K Monthly From Abilities Discovered Almost By Mistake

I once read somewhere that ‘blessed are the adaptable, for they shall embrace change’. It is not often that you will find someone who is flexible enough to have multiple personalities all rolled up into one.

Of such character is Njoroge Ng’ang’a. He earns an extra Ksh 100, 000 a month from his side hustle as a master for ceremony for events and motivational speaker. The broadcast script writer with CCTV Africa also adds up as a writer, journalist and marketer. This extra money is topped up by his work on documentaries, voice overs and commercial adverts.

“An event can attract between Ksh 20,000 and Ksh 50, 000. During the jubilee campaigns last year I worked as a mobiliser and coordinator of the coalition activities in Nakuru County as well as being the deputy coordinator for the presidential campaign. That saw me earn around Ksh 80,000 in a single event,” he says.

Speaking to The Standard,  for a man with so many roles, he claims he discovered his abilities almost by mistake.

“During my schools sports day, the radio was connected to a microphone in the field. I took the microphone from one of my friends and captivated the gathered students and teachers with my oratorical skills. From that time on, I began to nurse the dream of becoming a broadcast journalist,” he says.

Ng’ang’a claims that it took a while or his dream to actualize. After his KCSE he got a job with royal gate limited, a real estate firm in Nakuru, where he was in charge of marketing and advertising.

In 2006 he quit his job to work at a radio station, touch FM, which had just been launched. Ng’ang’a says he worked there as a news anchor specializing in English news and other programmes. This was his first chance to hone his journalism talent.

“I then moved to hero radio, where I was hosting the breakfast show while dabbling as head of radio, before shifting to sauti ya mwananchi to host the breakfast show. I then moved to radio Tehran in Iran before finally moving to CCTV Africa where I am currently a broadcast script writer and a voice artist,” he narrates.

Nganga explains to The Standard that his many career moves were because he wanted new challenges and a platform for growth.
“I left the stations having worked in different capacities to pave way for others and look for a more challenging platform,” he adds.

For a man who starts his day at 4:00 am, Ng’ang’a says that emceeing challenges him though it is exciting as it offers an opportunity to travel to different places and meet and connect with many people.

“My job as an emcee involves understanding an event programme and presenting it in a fresh, informative and creative way,” he adds.

Ng’ang’a also has an upcoming motivational book called Discover Yourself.

“It is aimed at helping young adults discover their god given talents and rely on them when everything else seems to fail,” he describes the book.

He says that he believes in making it big in life and his dream is to one day own a media house.

“I cannot boast of impressive academic credentials but this did not stop me from pursuing all sorts of opportunities. What I lack in my professional training I make up for with hard work, being willing to learn on the job and natural skills,” he informs.

Have your natural skills done so much for you in your life or are you going to start utilizing them now?
