How to Successfully Apply for a Job in the Public Service Commission

A growing trend among young job seekers is to work in a government institution where flexible working hours, allowances and benefits are guaranteed.

However, applying for a government position or parastatal may seem easy but it can be complicated for some qualified job seekers.
What job applicants need to realize is that a single mistake in the application process may cost you the opportunity of being considered in the job.

In a recent job advertisement by Career Point, the Public Service Commission was seeking to hire 418 individuals in different fields.

Here is a simple procedure that you can follow if you are interested in applying for your preferred position in the Public Service Commission.

The commission gives the interested candidates the option to make their application online through one of the commission’s website OR by completing one application form PSC 2(Revised 2007) that is downloaded in the commission website.

For Candidates Interested in Applying for Positions Online

  • The commission advises that the applicant uses the version of Mozilla Firefox as the preferred internet browser.
  • The next step is to create an account on the commission website www.publicservice.go.ke by registering online. To do this, provide your ID Number/Passport number, your email address and also create your password.
  • After creating an account, log in the system using the Id number/Passport number and the password created.
  • Ensure that all details concerning your qualification, experiences, registration, other courses and also referees are fully completed.
  • Only applications that are fully competed and have correct information will be considered.
  • Upon successful application, candidates are advised to print and keep a copy of the application summary and clicking on the application menu.
  • This being a government position, candidates need to be wary of any inaccurate or incorrect information as it may lead to prosecution.

For Candidates Applying by Filling the Application Form

  • Candidates who wish to apply for positions using this procedure must download the form through the commission’s website by going to www.publicservice.go.ke and click on the PSC forms section.
  • Next is to click on the job application form then fill it with the correct and accurate information.
  • One important aspect for candidates to note is that they should NOT attach any document to the application form. This is because all the details requested in the advertisement should be filled in the form.
  • As far as honesty is concerned, candidates who opt to fill the PSC 2 form need to observe integrity as dishonesty will lead to automatic disqualification.
  • Shortlisted candidates will then be required to produce originals of their National Identity Card, academic and professional certificates and transcripts during the interview.
