Help! My Boss Despises Me And Wants Me To Quit

By Lilian Wamaitha

The unemployment rates in the country are wanting. Imagine graduating and struggling to get a job for the next couple of years. When you finally land your first permanent job things aren’t as you expected. What happens when your boss does everything to sabotage you?

This is Monica Story

“I have been working in a marketing firm in Nairobi for the past one year now. This was after staying at home for two and half years not being able to find a job. I have a three year old kid who has started going to school and life has become a little bit easy now that I am employed. Being an orphan I have no one else to look up to for financial help except me.

You can imagine the joy and relief I felt to finally land this job. Though it is somehow monotonous which makes it kind of boring but the salary and benefits are amazing. At least it puts food on the table at the end of the day.

Things have been good and I have enjoyed every bit of it. This is until last year around September when a co-worker who has hated me since day one was promoted to a supervisory role. Getting my work done is always difficult because everything I do for her will never be okay.

I have confronted her about it and she has openly admitted that she doesn’t like me and that she would do anything to get me done. She has gone to the extent of even telling the other colleagues not to talk to me.

This has affected me as she is always rating me as poor when it comes to team work.

My pleas to top management officials have fallen on deaf ears. Nobody seems to be in any position to do anything. My life has become so difficult since nothing I do is ever good for her.

What do I do? I can’t afford to lose this job. Being a single mother is the reason I have had to put up with her.”

What would you advice Monica. How does she handle the situation or should she just quit? Leave your comments below.
