Top 5 Most Marketable Professions In Kenya

By Michelle Wanjiku

People want to work in an industry that is not saturated and has job openings. As such most people go for the professions that are deemed marketable. In this article, we highlight some of the marketable professions in Kenya and why they are marketable.

Here is a list of the most marketable professions in Kenya

1. IT

This has to be the most marketable professions of them all. Every organisation is in need of an IT department. It doesn’t matter which industry.

It has become an integral part of any business. With the emergence of application developers and companies such as Google, Microsoft, Oracle etc, have based their entire business in IT.

Although one does need to have more than just a degree or diploma in IT to land a well paying job, it is all worth it in the end.

Everyone is moving from the analogue way of doing things and embracing technology as such, IT professionals will always have a readily available job market.

2. Engineering

This is among the very marketable professions because not very many people opt to do engineering maybe because of the many years it takes to finish school or the perception that it is a difficult course.

The result is that the market is not saturated which means there is a demand for engineers. This is made even more prominent with the developments in the country. There will always be a need for civil engineers because there will always be a need to build roads.

Plus, there are always engineering jobs being advertised. Not to mention that engineering is a well-paying job.

3. Law

This may not seem like one of the marketable professions but it is. There will always be a need for lawyers.

Not many people survive the process of qualification probably because it is long and considered difficult.

What makes law a marketable profession is the fact that there will always be a need for judges and lawyers and the fact that most lawyers are very well paid.

4. Accounting

As an accountant, you do not have to only work in a bank. Most organisations require accountants so there is always a ready market for accountants.

With accounting though one needs to get certifications like CPA, ACCA or ACMA. These will help increase your chances of getting a job.

5. Medicine

Although the training takes long and they are currently in a row with the government over salaries, this is one profession where people rarely complain of a lack of jobs.

The need for doctors will always be there so job security is also a factor. This is why it qualifies as one of the most marketable professions in Kenya.

However, it does not mean that all the other courses are useless, what it means for other professions is that one has to strive to be unique in order to get recognized. Gone are the days when a simple Degree or Diploma would get you a job.

Nowadays, it is all about what extra qualifications or certifications do you have that will be of benefit to the organisation.
