Faith Muruiru, an office administrator and founder of a Famu Bridal Showers is a perfect example of people venturing into part time business during the weekends. In an interview with the Daily Nation, she reveals that, “from 9 to 5, five days a week, I work as an office administrator in a local architectural firm. On weekends, I give talks at bridal showers which are a competitive business.”

Find A Passion
Anyone can have a part time job using your passion , skills or talent. On the other hand, Faith uses her passion and own life experiences in her part time job. In her interview with Daily Nation, she confesses that she uses her passion of talking and reading is what she uses to share information while talking to women.
“I am a pastor’s kid and I had turbulent adolescence. This coupled with my own struggle to find the godly marriage that I wanted saw me resolve to give bridal shower talks on the basis of the Bible.” She adds.
Have a side job
Joseph Mwaniki, an IT Manager at a leading insurance industry, admits using his skills to work on various IT projects for other companies after work. “Some companies contract my services to work on short term IT projects, which I do mostly after work or during the weekends at a fee.” He confesses that he does not spend his monthly salary on upkeep but “uses money from part time jobs for monthly upkeep of my family.”
On the other hand, Jane Wambui, a sales professional uses her talent to work as Karaoke singer and a DJ after work. “Since I was a child I have been sing in church and when I discovered that I could monetize this talent, I looked for a job as a Karaoke singer in several clubs in Nairobi, which pay me Sh 20,000 for any performance.” She further adds that she has been going for DJ classes which also earn her money in various ceremonies.
Part time jobs are beneficial in many ways. “The part timers generate extra income for themselves, acquire necessary skills (planning, communication, organizational) and are prepared for many more opportunities,” explains Onesmus Muli, Business Development Manager at Nation Media Group.
