Are You Afraid Of Your RECKLESS Expenses? Here’s How She Makes You Broke

By Kibet Tobias
We all struggle to get a job in Kenya today. We walk through hell of searches from one office to another, from website to website; just to find your dream job.
However once you get that job opportunity, lots of expenses come in bulk – both necessary and unnecessary.
Our parents, friends or even girlfriend will want to know where you work, the salary and when you will start earning.
From here parents would ask for money or for a loan if they are in a very difficult situation. If you have ever been in a similar situation and borrowed money from them, it is time to return the favor. But it is always important to establish a plan on how you can help them.
However there’s a worst group of people, very dangerous to your wallet. After working for over a year and you are still broke like hell, it is time to identify them and correct the mess.
Truth is relationships can be fun, but sometimes too expensive.
Here are the reasons why your girlfriend is making you broke and how you should address it to prevent running broke faster than you saved. So that you not to have to choose between love and money. Get rich from today!

Here’s How Your Girlfriend Is Making You Broke

1. Every time she asks for money
Some ladies love money more than money-owner. She asks for a loan to buy a new TV, and the moment after purchasing it asks for money to pay rent.
You give her fare to visit her parents in West Pokot and the next day they need cash for new smartphone. The next time she wants airtime. Isn’t this ridiculous?
You help her pay a hospital fee, yet she come back the next day with a new hairdo and asking for money to clear her fee arrears.
If this continues, ask yourself if you are his father or mother. You are doing what her parents.
The question is; do you have the money? If you do not have the money, then you need to say no. Let them call you ‘Stingy Boyfriend’ but you are doing favor to your wallet.
You should not go into debt in order to help your girlfriend out.  However, if you have the money available in an emergency fund, and you are comfortable with the idea of never seeing the money again, then you may want to consider giving her the money.
2. She asks for presents
Most of our Kenyan ladies today want to see you spending on her to show love as a man. Giving a present is one way of appreciating your girlfriend or celebrating a given event with her.
It starts with her birthday, valentines, your anniversary, and Christmas. These events are compulsory so you still have not added the other gifts you present as surprises.
However good it is, don’t go all the way to get her a jewel that will cost you millions; it is about the simple presents that will have meaning to just the two of you.
You remember the last year’s wedding that costed KES 100 only? Kenyan millennials should learn from this. Am not saying you do the same but be reasonable.
The trick here is to save on presents, which you can approach in two ways. First, you can opt to save funds to address her presents and avoid using your savings. If this is impossible, it is time to negotiate a present limit with her. Rather than go out and get a bouquet of flowers, get her one. If she cares about you, she will appreciate your effort just as much.

3. She wants to go out every weekend
It’s Friday. She wants to leave the house.
Whether she is looking to hang out with you or simply rest after a tough week, this will definitely consume a great part of your finances.
You will be looking at a few drinks for the two of you and an appetizer at the least and because it is late, consider getting a cab back home.
These are the expectations on a light day out. It gets worse when you have to eat out and address other extras. At the time, you are looking at it, taking her out once a week does not sound like much.
However, have you thought of the impact in the long term? Assume you go out and spend about KES 10,000 every night on average; this accumulates to KES 40,000 a month. This amount goes higher for the all-out evenings and big nights.
At this rate, limit the nights out. You can cut costs on this by opting for nights in. Reduce the number of nights you actually have to go out. Staying in is more affordable and you can invite other friends to spice up the night.
Get a movie, cook some snacks, and buy a bottle of wine. You do not have to pay for the movies and cooking at home is far much cheaper.
If she insists she wants to go out, take her out to a nearby church service (kesha).
Keep your love and money.
4. She never calls or texts
Communication is important in a relationship. This is 100% true!
However this becomes a financial thorn when you are the one to always call her. Even when she misses your call she never calls back.
If by chance she picks it, at the end of the call she asks for airtime to call her ‘sick’ parent or sibling.
You probably want to talk to her as much and you will probably do it. While you thought, you were simply going to wish her a lovely night and the conversation goes on and on about how the day went. This is doing more harm to your account.
Solution: Negotiate your cell phone plan. Both of you should chose the cheaper service provider which you can access cheaply and subscribe for longer hours of calls. Airtel & Telkom provide such services. For example, Airtel provides 24-hour free call services for Ksh10 only.
Whether married or not, the above piece will help you save more money. You want to be generous, but not naïve. You want to continue my belief in sharing, but you also wonder when and if you’re being used.
Take your pick and be cautious of spending too much on someone.
