10 Best Reasons Why You Should Quit Your Job Now

By Lilian Wamaitha
How long have you wanted to quit your job and just do something totally different – something that you really enjoy doing?
Quitting they say is not one of the best options and neither is it a good trend for anyone to adopt.
However, in some instances, quitting your job can be one of the smartest career moves that you will ever make in your life.
In fact studies have it that job quitting is currently on the rise.
Why? It means that people who quit are finding better opportunities elsewhere and hence the rise in this trend.
Putting that into consideration, here ten reasons why you should consider finally quitting your job today.
1. You know you can make more money elsewhere
Money is not always everything, but let’s be serious? How would you feel to work without a salary?
Money keeps us going and if you feel underpaid and that you could be making more money elsewhere, it’s finally time to let go of that job.
Making more money could be at a new job or that business that you’ve always wanted to start. 2018 should be that year where you finally take that leap of faith.
I was reading an article today on the Business Daily about this young man William Anguka who quit his lucrative banking job to start a business of delivering parcels from abroad. On good days he now makes 1 million. This could be you as long as you let go of that fear that has been keeping you at a miserable job.
2. You are bored
Work is not always interesting and sometimes we all find ourselves with a share of uninteresting projects that we have to work on.
However, if you are always bored, no matter what assignment you are working on, it’s time to consider a move especially if your company is not willing to promote you or support a lateral move.
3. You want to work for yourself
If you can’t wait to join the number of young professionals working as freelancers, then you are not alone.
Freelancers make up 35% of all professionals and there are several advantages that come with this status.
One, you get to call the shots and two; you don’t have to answer to anyone. You also get to choose what kind of jobs you want to do and that means being at liberty to work on interesting projects. And last but not least, freelancers make more money that their employed counterparts.

4. There is no room for upward mobility
It’s one thing to work hard for a promotion but it another to work hard and not get anywhere,
If you are working at a company where promotions are rarely given, then you don’t have to tie yourself to a dead end job.
5. A difficult work environment
A difficult work environment is one of the toughest to overcome,
And unfortunately some companies don’t really value their employees or their morale. If this is a case in your work place, this kind of atmosphere is unbearable and it should be a great motivator to quit your job.
This is especially if you have raised these concerns but nothing is being done about it.
6. You no longer respect your boss or supervisor
You know that respect you had for your boss or supervisor when you started out? Yeah, if that has diminished, it means that your exit from the company has long been overdue.
If you no longer have a high regard for the person you answer directly to, this can be quite difficult and you should quit before you raise issues that may be hard to recover from.
7. You are only staying because you are scared of change
Change can be scary I know.
Quitting your job brings along certain insecurities like how you will survive without a salary and wondering if what you are about to do is worth it.
If you are only staying at your job because you are scared of moving on or the changes your decision will bring in your life, this year, it’s time to make that leap of faith.
You can never know what the future holds unless you are willing to try it out.
8. You feel like your soul is being sucked out of you
We all are not willing to sell our souls to corporations.
We all have unique purposes in life and if you feel like the corporate world is not cut out for you, it’s time to quit and do something you are willing to tolerate for the rest of your life.
It’s you job to figure out what you purpose in life is and pursue it.
In short, start living a life of purpose.
9. Your company is not doing so well
If everyone is quitting left and right because your company is sinking, you don’t have to wait until you are ship wrecked to realize that you need something better.
Sometime you may be tempted to hold on as a sign of loyalty but it’s just not worth it.
You company is not doing well and your boss knows that. It’s just a matter of time before it crumbles and you are left jobless.
While you still have the time, start looking for a job or find something else to do like a business.
10. You dislike your boss and the people you work with
Life is so precious. Bad bosses, dysfunctional colleagues? Who has time for that?
If you relate to any of these, it may be a sign that you need to quit your job in 2018.
I know what you are thinking?
“And what would I do?” “This is crazy!” “I have bills to pay and loans to settle”
It’s scary I know. But you will figure out a way to a more rewarding career path than dying a slow death in a dead end job. Trust in you to make it work.
Leaving your job is a personal decision and there are so many reasons you may feel that the move is not the right one. The most important thing is to trust your guts and do what makes you happy. Nobody wants to be stuck in a job they hate for the rest of their life. You have potential and you cannot realize it at a job you hate. Take that leap of faith and best of luck.
