Think of it this way…
We all bring something different to the table in a team. And every player in team has a role to play.
And for this reason, I am going to share something about leadership that I believe will move you from being a follower leader to a powerful influencing leader.
Let’s now have a look at the 10 Commandments of an effective leadership style
1. Thou shall Lead by an example
Respect as a leader is earned not given.
You must first create a good picture & vision in the minds of your followers by paving a way that they can follow for you to earn this respect.
Fail at this, and your leadership plan will wander into the wilderness.
2. Thou shall set clear guidelines on work ethics, standards and expectations
It’s important for your team members to know what you expect from them.
They need to know what your standards and expectations are for everything to run smoothly since everyone will deliver their expectations.
3. Thou shall remain honest and open to feedback
Feedback is essential to your team. People need to know what is working and what is not.
As a leader, you should be open minded and keep an open door policy to all your team members to create a free and honest culture.
4. Thou shall leave your ego at the door
Keep in mind that some of your team members are going to do better than you.
And one of the biggest compliments you can receive as a leader is to have one of your people move on to a better opportunity.
Be proud of them, not jealous.
5. Thou shall remember that the buck stops with you
If for some reason, your team fails to deliver expectations, take responsibility and re-strategize. This is what a leader does.
Never play the blame game as a great leader.

6. Thou shall strive to be emotionally intelligence with a positive attitude
Among the most important personal skills a leader should have are definitely those that favour self-leadership.
You should be able to manage stress well and accept constructive criticism while keeping a positive attitude for the team’s good.
7. Thou shall delegate and encourage team work amongst members
To make your work easier, learn to delegate work to the right persons which will help develop the potential of your team members and increase the confidence and sense of belonging of the group.
Don’t be possessive!
8. Thou shall acknowledge and appreciate your team members
Everybody loves credit for work well done!
In fact this is a motivating factor. Invest on it to grow your team’s motivation.
9. Thou shall be flexible and adaptable to change
It’s not every day that things will go as planned. And a leader, it’s important that you learn to be flexible to both changes in your work and those of your the members of your team.
10. And Finally, Thou shall be human and treat team members with dignity
Everyone has inherent dignity and worth and share as a human being. For this reason, strive to treat every team member as such to create a sense of belonging and unity as a leader.
You can strive to be the best leader your team can ever get.
