4 Great Tips To Match Your Qualifications To A Job You Are Applying For

They say employers have a way of knowing which candidates suits the position they have advertised for and which one is to be ignored.
And when an advertised job description exactly matches the qualifications indicated on your CV, you will be sure to catch the employer’s eye so that they immediately see a good fit.
Well, for this reason, it’s very important to focus on your most relevant skills and strengths when writing that CV and cover letter and relating it with the job description, as well as when you shall be when interviewing.
The closer your match to the position, the better your chances of job search success.

Here is how to match your qualifications with the job requirements

1. Include the wordings found in the job description
Most job adverts have a brief introduction of the company in question followed by desirable skills and qualification together with the responsibility for that particular job.
Go through this carefully and align your qualifications with what the job advert is asking for. For instance, if the job requires strong writing skills, you might say;
“While working as a campaign assistant, I wrote press releases about the candidate’s platform which resulted in two articles in the local media.”
This clearly shows that you have good writing skills.
2. Relate your background to the job position summary
Before any employer lays out the skills and requirement for a position, they will first give a background summary of that role and the general responsibilities that you will undertake.
For example, if the job advertisement states, “Focusing on store level operation performance, coaching, and developing Shift Supervisors and other non-management associates,”, you will most definitely want to expand upon your past coaching and development experiences

3. Review Your CV
Review your current CV & make sure that you have incorporated as many statements about the preferred qualifications for the job as possible.
List the highest priority phrases at the beginning of your descriptions to get the most attention.
Take a few minutes to update the descriptions of the jobs you’ve held. Jazzing up your resume job descriptions can make your resume much more impressive.
4. Put more focus on the right achievements
Simply put, accomplishments are those achievements that correspond to the responsibilities the employer has described in the job descriptions.
If they want a person with good sales and marketing skills, focus on your monthly sales targets. Don’t start highlighting your good accounting skills while the role does not require any of those.

Now that you know this,
Remember every employer has between 5 to 7 seconds to skim through your CV.
If the CV does not address his/her needs for that position, then this time again, your application will be ignored just like those several others that you’ve sent out in the past.
Ensure that you are using the correct CV for each job you are applying for.
